Christ Leads The Way

The Bible tells us that the Old Testament scriptures were written for our learning (Romans 15:4). They help give us patience and comfort so that we might have hope. Looking at Hezekiah and his life does just that – gives us hope in our walk with the Lord. Hezekiah was one of the few good kings of Judah who faithfully served God. And God blessed him because of it. Let’s look at the example that Hezekiah gives to us for living right before God.

How Hezekiah Served God – An Example for Us:

1. Hezekiah did what was right in the sight of the Lord (2 Kings 18:3). It’s God’s desire for us to do the same – not what’s right in our own eyes or somebody else’s. The way of a man may seem right but in the end, it’s the way of death (Prov. 14:12). We, too, can do what’s right before the Lord.
2. Hezekiah removed idol gods and places for their worship from the land (2 Ki. 18:4). While many of us do not literally worship or bow down to graven images, it can be easy for us to make idols out of our jobs, our possessions, or even our families. We must remove anything out of our lives that take the place and space of God.
3. Hezekiah trusted in the Lord God (2 Ki. 18:5). Putting our trust in ourselves or in other people will always lead to disappointment. We must put our trust, our faith, and our hope in the Lord.
4. Hezekiah held fast to the Lord and did not turn from following Him (2 Ki. 18:6). God wants us to hold onto Him – not our family, friends, education, careers, or anything else. Those things fade away one way or another. They are not lasting. It’s in our best interest to not let our foot slip to the right or to the left but to keep steadfast on the path of following the Lord.
5. Hezekiah kept the commandments of the Lord (2 Ki. 18:6). The bible tells us that His commands are not burdensome (1 Jo. 5:3). They are there for our protection and our wellbeing – not to burden or grieve us, but to help us. God wants the best life for us, we just have to commit to fully and wholeheartedly obeying Him.

May we follow Hezekiah’s example of doing what is right before the Lord and putting our trust in Him.

“Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.” – Jer. 24:7
