Are You Misled? Lessons from Proverbs 14:12

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” – Proverbs 14:12

Proverbs 14:12: There is a way that seems right to a person, but in the end it leads to death.
Proverbs 14:12

Hi, friends! I hope that you are well. Thank you so much for the love and support you show me in my writing journey. Much love and many thanks. As always, I appreciate you!!!

Have you ever been in an intense argument or debate with someone and then realized that you were completely in the wrong? It can be hard to admit and give up our position, because who doesn’t want to be right? But when faced with the truth of God’s word, we must always be willing to let go of our preconceived ideas and previously held beliefs if they are not aligned with God’s will and His word.

I’ve been there. I once believed the doctrine that all a person has to do in order to be saved by God was to believe in Jesus and say a prayer. But, I was wrong. That’s not what the Bible teaches. And boy was it hard to let go of that incorrect belief.

The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12). We can think we are in the right with God and on matters of the Bible and spirituality and be completely wrong.

Remember Saul? He persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it (Galatians 1:13). he thought that he was doing God’s will in doing so. But he was mistaken and eventually learned the gospel of Christ after his encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus (Acts 9).

Unfortunately there are many today who think they are right with God in their teachings about the Bible and salvation. There is no prayer that one can pray in order to be saved. Belief alone does not bring a person into relationshp with Christ.

The Lord requires that we repent – that is, stop living a life of sin (Acts 17:30), confess that He is Lord (Matthew 10:322-33), and be baptized (Mark 16:16), fully immersed in water in order to be forgiven of our sins (Acts 2:38) and make our home in heaven with Him.

The problem that most people have with the above requirements that God has laid out for us to obey in His word is that they take one verse of scripture, like Romans 10:9, and they throw out the rest. Jesus specifically said, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16). He specifically said, “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). And He specifically said, ‘Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven’” (Matthew 10:32-33).

So, it’s not my teaching, and it’s not my words. Those are the words of Jesus.

If you think you are right with God with the religious teaching you espouse about salvation that are not true according to God’s word, are you willing to change to follow God’s commands?

If you want to be saved, you can obey Him today by doing what the Lord has required of us all. I encourage you: don’t let another day go by without making things right with God and with the people around you. Today just might be the last.

In summary, sometimes we may think we have everything figured out, and our ways may be leading us to death. I know I’m not above being wrong about something. As mentioned above, I’ve had to come to terms with my own traditionally held beliefs and what the Bible actually says before. And, even now, I am open to learning more about the Bible and the ways of the Lord so that I can be in right standing with Him.

What are some teachings in the Bible that you have been misled about or had to reassess and throw out because they were wrong? I look forward to hearing from you in the comments!
