Christ Leads The Way

“Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before you in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight [..]” (2 Kings 20:3).

We already discussed Hezekiah’s example of living right in the sight of the Lord that we can follow. Let’s look at the benefits of doing so. God blessed Hezekiah for walking upright, and He will also bless us in the same way.

How God Blessed Hezekiah’s Service to Him and How He Will Bless Us

1. The Lord was with Hezekiah (2 Ki. 18:7). Hezekiah put his trust in the Lord and did what was right in his sight, and the Lord in turn was with him. That’s Who I want with me, wherever I go. If we do what Hezekiah did, the Lord will be with us, too. He has promised to never leave or forsake us (Heb. 13:5).
2. The Lord allowed him to prosper everywhere he went (2 Kin. 18:7). Proverbs 28:25 says that “He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.”
3. God defeated his enemies for him (2 Ki. 18:8). When the enemy is too strong for us, God will deliver us from the snare of their power (Ps. 18:17). He did it for Hezekiah with the king of Assyria, and He’ll do it for you and me.
4.  God heard Hezekiah’s prayers (2 Ki. 19:15-35; 20:2). God will hear and answer our prayers if we faithfully serve and follow Him like Hezekiah did. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1 Pet. 3:12).
5. God delivered Hezekiah out of his troubles (2 Ki. 20:6).  When Hezekiah became deathly ill and the prophet Isaiah informed him that he would die, Hezekiah turned to the Lord. He prayed to the Lord to remember how he had faithfully and wholeheartedly walked before Him. God answered his prayer, healed him of his sickness, and added 15 years to his life (vs. 5-7). God wants to add to our lives (Jo. 10:10). He can heal us of all our afflictions. We must humbly and fervently petition Him and be obedient like Hezekiah was. The effective fervent prayer of the righteous avails much (Ja. 5:16).

May we strive to be like Hezekiah and walk right before the sight of the Lord. And may God bless us in so doing.
