The Lord Sees My Heart

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” – 1 Samuel 16:7

Hey friends! I hope that all is well with you. Thank you for reading and showing your love and support to me. I appreciate you!

When Samuel went to anoint a new king at the house of Jesse, after King Saul had disobeyed God, Samuel thought that Jesse’s son Eliab was the one that God was going to make king. The Lord told him that it wasn’t him and not to look at outward appearances, because “man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t look on the outside or at man’s physical stature, but He looks at the heart? I am. That verse tells me a lot. It says that the Lord doesn’t look at my skin color, my height, my weight, or my abilities. It also tells me that God doesn’t see my failures, my mistakes, or my achievements.

With the Lord, I am not my skin color; I am not my weight; I am not my accomplishments; I am not my failures, and; I am not my mistakes. God doesn’t see any of that. He sees my heart.

That makes me glad.

He knows that my heart only wants to love, honor, and respect others and Him. He knows that my heart desires to serve Him and to do what’s right. I don’t always get it right, but He knows that’s what’s in my heart. And I’m so thankful that the God of the universe doesn’t look at outward things. He sees my heart.

He sees yours, too. Maybe we ought to strive to be more like God in that respect. I think we should. When it boils down to it, life is about so much more than what you can see with the physical eye. You can’t see love, hope, or joy. They’re not plastered on someone’s clothing. They manifest themselves in different ways, however. But those things are in the heart.

And the Lord knows, that despite everything I’ve been through – despite everything that pulls me in a different direction, I still have hope; I still have joy, and; I still have love in my heart. That’s not something you can tell just by looking at someone. But, the Lord sees my heart.

Let’s endeavor to look at the heart of a person and not look at physical stature or outward appearances and judge people by them. Because, in the Lord’s sight, true beauty is in the heart.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He make His face shine down upon you.
