Claiming Your Spiritual Inheritance

“So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God’.” – Joshua 14:9

Joshua 14:9 – God’s Promise of Inheritance

Hi everyone! I hope that you are well! Your kindnesses toward me in reading an supporting my blog mean so much to me. I appreciate you!!!

Leaving an Earthly Legacy

What are you leaving behind for your loved ones when you are gone? Most of us want to ease the burden of the cost of life for our spouses, our children, and our family members. It’s not uncommon to leave an inheritance of an insurance policy, property, or other belongings when we die.

A physical inheritance is great for those who are the beneficiaries.

Caleb’s Example of Faithfulness

God had an inheritance of land for Caleb because he remained faithful when all the other children of Israel disobeyed God. Because of their hearts, they did not get to enter into the promised land but died in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 1:35-36).

But Caleb wholly followed the Lord, so God blessed him with an inheritance.

A Greater, Eternal Promise

Are you wholly following the Lord? He has prepared an inheritance for you and me – not a physical inheritance, but one that’s even better. God the Father, “who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:3-4).

Who Will Receive the Inheritance?

Jesus has provided us with an incorruptible inheritance, reserved in heaven. But not everyone will receive it. Notice Ephesians 5:3-5.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

That’s a clear list above of those who won’t inherit the kingdom of God.

How to Claim Your Spiritual Inheritance

The spiritual inheritance of a home in heaven in the presence of God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son is found in Christ only (Ephesians 1:18).

Obedience to the gospel is what puts us in Christ. You can obey the gospel today by believing that Jesus Christ is Lord, confessing that He is, repenting of your sins, and being baptized for the forgiveness of your sins.

A Call to Follow Wholeheartedly

Won’t you accept the inheritance that Christ offers? It is far greater than anything else anyone could leave you here on this earth. Don’t be among those in the list who have no inheritance in the kingdom of God.

In a world that is full of evil, let’s be like Caleb and wholly follow the Lord.

What is one area of your life where you can choose to follow the Lord more wholeheartedly this week, just like Caleb? Let me know in the comments. Let’s encourage one another!
