“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.” – Isaiah 53:7

Hi, everyone. I hope that you are well. Thank you so much for reading. I appreciate you!
Jesus the Christ endured so much while on earth. He was opressed and afflicted (Isaiah 53:7). He was ridiculed (Luke 23:36). He was treated with contempt (Luke 23:11). He was humiliated, in His death and even until His death on the cross (Galatians 3:13). This Messiah – the One who saves people from sins, was made to be a public spectacle, yet He didn’t say a word. He remained silent.
The Lord could’ve defended Himself and exclaimed to Him Who He was. He could’ve shown them a miracle to make them stop. Jesus could’ve even called 10,00 angels to destroy the world and set Him free. But He didn’t.
He endured the suffering and the shame. They were doing everything within their power to embarrass, demean, and crush Jesus, but they didn’t realize the truth. Though he was silent, Jesus “disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15).
God sits high and looks low. He sees what’s going on. He knows the oppression of His people. He sees the abuses that take place in this world. He knows the evil and wrongdoing that people are revelling in every day.
And the Lord has said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay” (Romans 12:19).
So, whatever it is you may be going through, whatever mistreatment you are enduring, the Lord laughs at the ones inflicting the abuse upon you (Psalm 59:8). He will get the last laugh.
I take comfort in the Lord. And I laugh right along at such foolishness, because I know that God doesn’t play about His children. Remember what happened to the 42 children who ridiculed and mocked the prophet of God? Read 2 Kings 2:22-24.
Also, I’ve come to fully understand what Jesus meant when He said, “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12:25).
There’s nothing about my life in this world that anyone can do to or say something about that will really matter. What I mean is: you could berate me, you could ridicule or try to humiliate me, you could speak negatively about me, or you could even take my life, and I wouldn’t care. I don’t care. This world and this life amount to nothing to me compared to the glory I have prepared in my heavenly home.
Plus, I know Who gets the last laugh.
Jesus remained silent before His accusers because He knew who He was and He knew whose hands He was ultimately in.
Let people say what they want. Let them misunderstand. Let them ridicule. Let them try to embarrass.
I know Who I belong to. I know where I’m going. And I know Who gets the last laugh.
Jesus does.
How do you handle mistreatment, abuse, and ridicule? Do you find yourself trying to defend yourself, or do you take comfort in knowing that God sees it all and holds ultimate justice in His hands?
