God Sees Your Heart, Even When the World Sees Your Mistakes

“And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’” – Acts 13:22

Hi everyone. I hope that you are well. Thank you to to everyone who continues to read and show love. I appreciate you!!

The Reality of Our Imperfections

I am so forgetful at times. As some people quip, I would forget my head if it wasn’t attached to my neck and shoulders. I simply forgot to add additional supporting scriptures in my latest article, but I think the message was conveyed. I had and have no intention of ever leading anyone astray, that’s why I do my best to stick to what the Bible says because God has all the answers. And His way is true and pure. I make mistakes. I forget – more times and more things than I probably even remember or realize.

Have you ever forgotten something important? Or have you ever done anything wrong? I mean, are you perfect? Of course we all know the answer to that. You’re not perfect, I’m not perfect – none of us are perfect. But you know who is perfect? The Lord is. God in all His goodnes- in all His holines – looks down and sees us as His children in need of direction, guidance, love, and forgiveness.

Redemption Beyond Our Past: Lessons from King David

There is nothing that you or I have done that the Lord cannot forgive. Look at King David of the Bible. David committed adultery with Bathsheba, plotted against Uriah to cover up his sin, and then had him killed. He was guilty of adultery and of murder, among other things.

But God redeemed him from the darkness of His sin. And later David was referred to as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). He did unimaginable, hurtful, and deadly things – and he even recruited others as part of his plot to kill Uriah. After all that, things many of us would turn our noses up at, talk bad about, shun, or in our culture “cancel” him for, the Lord forgave David and called him a man after His own heart.

I’m so glad the Lord looks at the heart. Notice 1 Samuel 16:7: “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart’.”

Removed as Far as the East Is from the West

Despite what you or I have done in our past, Christ gave His life so that we can be forgiven. He does not look at what other people sees. So, think about the worst thing you’ve done and then remember Psalm 103:12 It says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” That’s pretty far. People try to hold onto our sins and hold them over our heads and punish us for them. But God casts our sins into the sea of forgetfulness and remembers them no more.

God sees your heart. He sees my heart. And He knows I just want to do what’s right. I just want to serve Him. No matter what is in my past, my eyes are set on Jesus. He has forgiven me. And He can forgive you, too.

Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. None of us are righteous. No, not one (Romans 3:10).

A Path to Healing and Hope

Christ offers forgiveness to all who obey Him in belief, in confession, in repentance, and in baptism. Do you want to be forgiven – to not be defined by your past failures and sins? Then come to Jesus. He will save you. He saved me and put my feet on a path that leads to goodness, faith, hope, service, and love. And He will do the same for you!

And though people around you may leave or abandon you because of your shortcomings, Christ we’ll never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

I’m so thankful that God sees my heart. And I’m thankful that He sees yours too, because we’re in need of God’s grace.

What does it mean to you to know that God sees your heart—not just your mistakes? Have you experienced a time when God’s forgiveness gave you a fresh start? Share your thoughts in the comments.
