Eternal Consequences of Disobeying the Gospel

“In flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

Hi, everyone! I hope that you are well. Thank you to all of you who support my writing journey and show love in the comments and in reading. I appreciate you!!!

How would you describe God? Would you say that He is kind? Would you say that He is forgiving? Or would you use another word? For many, the description that instantly comes to mind is: God is love. And that is very true, according to 1 John 4:8. But God is also just, and He will impart judgement on all people.

While some argue that a loving God would not send anyone to eternal damnation, it is possible to be loving and exact punishment at the same time. Consider the mother who adores her child but also disciplines the child when they do wrong. No one would say that it’s done out of hate.

Notice what the Bible says in 2 Thessalonians 1: 6-9. “it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.”

People who do not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ will face the vengeance of God in flaming fire. Their punishment will be an eternity of destruction away from God’s presence.

Wow. What a horrible way to spend eternity. I don’t want to experience that nor do I want anyone else to. See Call to Obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ for details on what the gospel of Jesus Christ is and how you can obey it.

It is an offense to God when people choose not to believe in and obey His Son Jesus. An He will repay anyone who takes that route.

You don’t have to decide to go the way of destruction. Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

The way to the narrow gate is simple: believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, confess that Jesus is Lord, and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins.

Which way will you choose? I hope you will walk the narrow way with me. Let’s spend eternity with the Lord.
