Christ Leads The Way

“You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6

When the Lord returns to earth to get his saints, that day will come as a thief in the night. Many will not be ready. But those of us who are in Christ have encouragement because we are not in darkness, so that the day of His return should overtake us as a thief (1 Thessalonians 5:4).

We are sons and daughters of light and sons and daughters of the day. The apostle Paul encourages us that we should “therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:6-7).

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation” (1 Thessalonians 5:8). These things will guard us from destruction on the day of the Lord’s return.

Have you put on the breastplate of faith and love? Are you wearing the helmet of salvation? If not, don’t delay. Put them on today. All you have to do is obey Christ: believe that He is Lord (John 8:24), repent of your sins (Luke 13:3), confess that He is Lord (Matthew 10:32-33), and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Mark 16:16). Then you will become a son or daughter of light and be spared from destruction on that day of the Lord’s return.

Let us watch and be sober, and be ready when Jesus returns. For we are not of the night, but of the day and light.
