Breaking Free from Self-Doubt

Have you ever had the thought that you’re not skilled enough, smart enough, pretty enough, strong enough, just not enough? If your answer is yes, then you are not alone. We all experience self-doubt at times and worry whether we simply are enough. Well, I’m here to tell you to cut that out today. Yes! Cut it out! Stop it! Change that negative mindset, and walk in the confidence that you are enough.

An Ancient Battle Against Insecurity

This type of negative mentality towards oneself is not new to humanity. Even Gideon in the Bible faced struggles with a similar perspective.

In Judges chapter 6, the Midianites prevailed against the children of Israel. So they cried out to the Lord for help. And God went to Gideon and told him, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” (Judges 6:14). God wanted him to deliver the Israelites from their enemies.

But, even though the Lord saw Gideon as a “mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12), Gideon responded: “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15).

Gideon saw himself as weak and the most insignificant in his family.

Weakness Overcome by Promise

God’s response? “And the Lord said to him, ‘Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.’” (Judges 6:16). And Gideon went on to defeat nearly 140,000 Midianites – with only 300 men! The Lord was with him, just as He said He would be.

Seeing Yourself Through God’s Perspective

So, while we are around here talking about, “I’m not good enough,” “I’m not smart enough,” “I’m not strong enough,” or “I’m not enough,” the Lord is saying to us just as He said to Gideon. Go! I have sent you. Mighty man and mighty woman of valor, I will be with you! You will win.

Don’t count yourself out, friends. Turn those negative thought patterns into thoughts that the Lord has about you. He says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. And you are precious enough to the God of heaven and earth for Him to send His Son Jesus to die for you.

Walk Forward in Courage

The Lord will be with His people. He said in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that His strength is made perfect in weakness.

So step into today with your head held high – anchored in courage, clothed in confidence, and walking in the unwavering truth of who the Lord created you to be.
