“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21

Hi, everyone. I hope that you and your families are well. Thank you so much for your continued show of support of my blog. I appreciate you!!
I’ve been meditating on Romans 12 today. There are a lot of gems there. The first two verses encourage us to present ourselves as living sacrifices to God and to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then verse 9 tells us to hate what is evil and cling to what is good. In verse 15, the Bible admonishes us to bless those who do us wrong. And the last part of the chapter deals with vengeance.
Most of us have been treated unfairly at some point in our lives. It’s not uncommon to want to get back at a person and exact vengeance upon them – even if it may just be a thought. But the Lord commands us to “repay no one evil for evil.” He also says to “have regard for good things in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17).
We don’t have to worry about “getting our lick back” or “having the last word”. So, “beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).
The Lord will take care of those who mistreat His children. We don’t have to worry about punishing others oravenging ourselves or our loved ones. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. And the punishment He exacts will be way worse than anything we could ever do to try to ake things right.
There’s so much evil in this world – so much hate. But we cannot let it consume us or overtake us. So, “do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).
Let’s pray for those who persecute us and say all kinds of evil against us. Let’s show kindness and love even when we are met with hate. It’s hard, but with God, nothing shall be impossible.
How have you managed feelings and thoughts of vengeance so as to not be overcome by evil and hand it over to the Lord? Share your thoughts in the comments.
