Are You Content?

Now godliness with contentment is great gain.” – 1 Timothy 6:6

Hey friends! Thank you for reading along with me and showing your support. I appreciate you!!!

Let me ask you a question: Are you content?

I don’t mean if you are happy. Happiness is different than contentment. Something has to happen to cause you to be happy. You got a promotion. There’s a check in the mail. The bills are all paid. You were sick but you got well. Those are things that would make anybody happy.

But contentment is being satisfied and at peace no matter what is happening around you – good or bad.

If you are broke financially but want to be rich, then can you still be at ease in your mind with having little?

If you are childless but you want to have a family of your own, then can you be at peace if it’s just not in the cards that you were dealt, knowing that God has your best interests at heart?

If you want a better job, can you do your best and be content with the one you have until another one presents itself?

The Proverbs writer knew something about contentment when he said, “Better is a little with righteousness than vast revenues without justice” (Prov. 16:8). If we are in a right standing before God, it’s better to have a little than to have a lot with things being wrong.

The Lord wants us to be content with the things that we have (Heb. 13:5), to be satisfied with our wages (Lk. 3:14), and to be content with having food and clothing (1 Tim. 6:8).

It can be hard seeing evil people who carry out schemes prosper. God doesn’t want us to be agitated by that kind of person (Ps. 37:7).

“But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him’” (1 Cor. 2:9).

Instead of focusing on what we don’t have and what we want, let’s focus on what we have been blessed with already and focus on being more like God. Godliness with contentment produces great gain (1 Tim. 6:6).

If you are not content, then you can have the true contentment that is found only in Christ. All you have to do is believe that Jesus is Lord, repent of your sins, confess that He is the Christ, be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins, and live a faithful life in service to Him. Then, no matter what obstacle is thrown your way, you can dwell in the peace and joy in knowing Christ.

Are you content?

“And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” – 1 Tim. 6:8

That’s great to hear! 😊 It’s definitely something that we have to work at becoming.
