What Are You Thinking?

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” – Philippians 4:8

Hey, friends! I hope that you are doing well. Thank you for your show of love and support in reading! I appreciate you!

What are you thinking about? I don’t mean to pry, but I want you to consider the things that you think. I just had to catch myself this morning thinking a thought that wasn’t exactly Christ-like (has that ever happened to you?) and I prayed to God for forgiveness and asked Him to help me think better thoughts – like the kind that He mentions in Philippians 4:8.

The Lord said through the inspired word of the Holy Spirit, “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

I had a sister in Christ say to me that if someone’s not talking about anything that fits that list, then she says to them, “Whatever!” If it’s not true, then, “whatever!” If it’s not of a good report, then, “whatever!”

But what things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report?

Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” ( John 17:17). Another word for noble is honorable. “His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever” (Psalm 111:3). Another thing that is honorable is marriage (Hebrews 13:4). The words of the Lord are pure (Psalm 12:6). His dwelling place is lovely (Psalm 84:1). And His commandments are holy, just, and good (Romans 7:12).

We need to do as God commands and think on these things – and not just think, but meditate on them. If you catch yourself thinking something that is not on the whatever list, just say, “Whatever!” and push it away from your mind. Then you can change your thinking to whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, and whatever is of good report.

What are you thinking?
