Atonement

“In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.” – Proverbs 16:6

Hey friends! Thanks a big bunch for keeping on reading and showing me your support. I appreciate you!!!

Christ came to earth with a specific purpose. He came to make atonement for you and me. Atonement carried the same idea as making amends, or reconciliation. It means to bring back into harmony or agreement – to restore. Jesus came to earth to restore mankind back to favor with God. Our sins separate us from God and Christ paid the price for our sins at Calvary.

The atonement that He made was once and for all people. And “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb. 10:10). Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice for you and me. Atonement was made through His blood. We were alienated from God. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:13).

Atonement was made specifically for reconciliation. Christ reconciled us to Himself, not counting our sins against us, and He became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:18-19, 21).

Lastly, atonement was made for the forgiveness of our sins. We have redemption in Christ, the forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:14). He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (Jn. 1:29). And it’s through His blood that we have forgiveness of our sins (Eph. 1:7).

That forgiveness is offered to all and granted to all who obey Him. It takes belief in Jesus Christ (Jn.8:24). It takes repentance (Lk. 13:3). It takes confessing that He is Lord (Mt. 10:32-33). And it takes water baptism, which brings us into contact with the blood of Christ.

You can have the atonement offered by Christ Jesus. You can be reconciled to God – brought back into harmony with Him. Won’t you submit to Him in obedience today. The Lord is waiting.

“Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name’s sake!” – Ps. 79:9
