You Can Confess That Jesus is Lord

Yes, you can be saved and know it! Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God? Have you put your faith in Him? If so, that’s great; you are now on your way to obtaining the gift of salvation that Jesus died for us all to have. Christ has purchased that gift for us with His blood by going to the cross of Calvary. In order for us to receive that gift, we have to do what He says.

We’ve looked at the first part of what Jesus said about salvation: we must first believe that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Now, let’s study what else Jesus said we must do in order to be saved. Along with believing in Christ, we must also confess Him.

Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33, “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.”

While believing is the first step to obtaining salvation, one must be willing to tell others and acknowledge openly that Jesus is the Christ. You can’t believe and keep it to yourself. Have you acknowledged that Jesus is Lord?

The Bible tells us that “if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). So  we saw from John 3:16 that if you believe, you’ll be saved and now in Romans 10:9 the Bible says if you confess Jesus as Lord, you’ll be saved.

They both speak of salvation but say different things. Yet, they aren’t in contradiction to one another. The Bible is the inspired word of God. It’s true. So we must put those two verses next to one another to piece together the picture of what God wants us to do in order to be saved. We must believe that Jesus is Lord, and we must confess that beautiful name of Jesus.

Those are two things, so far, that we have discussed and we know that we must do in order to be saved. It’s not because I said it, but it’s because Jesus said it in His Word. And He’s the One who does the saving, so I’m going to listen to Him. There’s more that God has commanded that we do in order to be saved. For now, if you haven’t yet believed, then why not? If you believe but haven’t confessed Christ before others, then why not?

“For this reason God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow – of those who are in heaven and on earth – and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:11
