“The gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). We can easily see the truth of Jesus’ statement in today’s society. The majority of people are depraved and deprived of any moral standards. People today practice a way of life as if evil is good and good, evil. A collective group in our culture, as a practice, live unrighteous lives, mistreat people, and abuse their power with no qualms about it. They laugh at wrongdoing and behave in hateful ways towards others. God is not pleased with it. That way of life leads no where but to hell. And, a lot of people are going if they do not repent and change their ways.
The devil has deceived so many people. He sneakily creeps in and makes a joke of evil, slyly making unrighteousness appear to be acceptable because everybody’s getting a good laugh. Everybody wants to be funny, to do and say whatever just to get viewers and followers because of the appeal of social media. And people follow along with it as if it’s okay. You can’t possibly believe that you can deceitfully and hatefully make fun and games of other people’s lives and not reap consequences. That’s a broad path that leads to eternal damnation. Those who follow along and participate – who engage in the actions that are vile and evidence of moral corruption – will have to answer to God. “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).
In today’s world, it has become the norm to violate all rules of ethics. Principles have been thrown out the door. People find the breaking and entering of others’ homes a laughing matter. They chuckle and stand by and watch as others are assaulted, mistreated, and abused. They find pleasure in harming other people and tearing apart families. They smile in a person’s face then turn around and berate them. People treat other human beings as less than human. They seek to destroy lives, with no thought or care. And they dishonor and disrespect God with their hateful rhetoric. The time has come and now is for this overtly wrong way of living to stop. If people don’t change, they will inevitably have to face the Lord’s anger. He does not like for anyone to hurt His children, to show disregard for His kingdom, nor to spit in the face of His Son.
“For if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment, and a fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. If anyone disregards Moses’ law, he dies without mercy, according to the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which He was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know the One who has said, ‘Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay’, and again, ‘The Lord will judge His people’” (Hebrews 10:26-30).
“Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). The unethical behavior, the violent acts, and the disrespectful speech that is pervasive and invasive in our culture must cease immediately. Every person will be judged by the way they treat others and God. None of us are promised tomorrow. We don’t know when our last day on this earth will be. So the time to get right with God is now. The time to abandon unrighteousness and sin is now. The time to reverence God and His Son is now.
If the world doesn’t change its ways – if people don’t change their ways, God will destroy it and them. His anger was stirred when the people of Noah’s day did what was continually violent and corrupt in His sight and God wiped everyone off the face of the earth, except Noah and his family (Genesis 6:11 – 7:23). A lot of people are going to suffer everlasting damnation because of the way they are treating God’s people and His holy name. Don’t be one of them. It is up to each individual to turn from their wicked ways, treat people the way they want to be treated, and seek peace with God. Stop doing what is wrong and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins so that you might be saved (Mark 16:16). Otherwise, you will perish (Luke 13:3). Enter in at the narrow gate.
