What is Truth?

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:32

Hey good people! Thank you so much for continuing to read my blog and show your love and support. I appreciate you!

What is truth? Some say it’s subjective – that truth is different for every individual. You hear people often talk about living or speaking their truths. But if truth is not the same for all people, how can we know what’s good and what’s right. There has to be objective, universal, moral truth. Otherwise, we would have no guiding lines by which to live.

Let’s take a look at what the Bible teaches about truth.

We know that truth came by way of Christ. “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17). And truth endures – it’s lasting and it doesn’t change from one person to the next. “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations” (Psalm 100:5).

Truth is sanctifying. Remember that Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). Truth is purifying. Peter wrote, “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart” (1 Peter 1:22).

Truth is part of the Christian armor. The disciple of Christ is to “stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (Ephesian 6:14). And it is revealed abundantly to saints (Jeremiah 33:6).

I submit that truth is the Word of God and it is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Truth should be believed (2 Thessalonians 2:12-13). Truth should be obeyed (Romans 2:8). And it should be rightly divided (2 Timothy 2:15).

Have you believed the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ? Have you obeyed it? Well, how do you obey truth? You believe it (Mark 16:16). You repent of your sins (Luke 13:3). You confess that Jesus is Lord (Matthew 10:32-33). And you submit to water baptism (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

The truth of the gospel will set you free from the chains of sin. Jesus came to set those who are captive free (Isaiah 61:1). Are you bound by sin? Does it have you weighed down? Let the truth of Jesus Christ free you. Give your life to the Lord today.

“To the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth, and not only I, but also those who have known the truth, because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever.” – 2 John 1-2
