Jesus – The Great I AM

“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’” – Revelation 1:8

Jesus is the I AM

Hey friends! Thank you so much for reading and showing your support. As always, I appreciate you!

Who are you? I mean, who do you say that you are? Many people might say, “I am a friend,” “I am a sister,” “I am courageous,” “I am strong,” or even “I am worthy”. We have lots of ways to describe ourselves when asked that question. It’s an important question that some people go to great lengths to find out. The priests and Levites asked John the Baptist the same question – Who are you? ( John 1:19). Jesus even asked His disciples, who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?” (Matthew 16:13). Then He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (Mathew 16:15). The Lord didn’t leave His disciples lacking in the knowledge about who He was and is. In the book of John, Jesus makes some compelling statements about who He is. Let’s take a look at them.

1. I am the bread of life.

“And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst’” (John 6:35). Jesus is that spiritual food for our souls that will make us never be hungry or thirsty again. He promises us that those who partake of Him will live forever.

2. I am the light of the world.

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’” (John 8:12). Christ shines in the midst of a dark world, shrouded by sin. “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

3. I AM.

“Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM’”(John 8:58). Christ is eternal. He didn’t say “I was.” He said, I AM. That’s the present tense, which means He exists before time.

4. I am the door.

“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture” (John 10:9). If we want to be saved, we have to enter the door of the kingdom through Christ Jesus.

5. I am the Good Shepherd.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Jesus gave His life for us, His sheep, so that we could live.

6. I am the resurrection and the life.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live’” (John 11:25). We have hope because Jesus resurrected! He is the resurrection for us in that if we believe in Him we will have life.

7. I am the way, the truth, and the life.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6). There’s no way around it. Jesus is the way for all of us to get to heaven. He is not only true, He is THE truth. And in Him we have life.

Who is Jesus? He’s told us who He is. Jesus is the great I AM. It’s up to us if we will believe and obey Him.
