Plans Of The Heart

“There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel – that will stand.” – Proverbs 19:21

Happy New Year, friends! I hope that you and your families are well. Thank you for all the love and support you showed me in 2020 by reading and subscribing to my blog. As always, I appreciate you!

As 2020 dawned, I had lots of plans. I had planned to go on a mission trip to Belize. My family and I had planned to take a trip to the beach. I, also, planned to be more hospitable. But as we all found out in 2020, plans can quickly go awry and be thwarted in another direction. The Word says, “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21).

Our plans can be made of no effect before we even realize it, but if we hope and trust in the Lord and allow Him to direct our steps, we won’t have to worry. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). God has good plans for our lives, so we should trust in Him to give us peace, a future, and a hope. These are the thoughts that he thinks toward us. Our plans pale in comparison.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

So, as we embark on 2021, let us trust in the Lord fully and not lean on our own understanding. If we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths. His plans are better than ours, anyway. For His thoughts are not our thoughts, nor our ways His ways.

I don’t know what you’re planning for this year; maybe you’ve decided not to plan anything just yet in light of the pandemic. But whatever your plans are, be sure to put the Lord first and seek His counsel.

What are you planning for 2021?
