Why Belief in Jesus Is Not Enough for Salvation (Part 2)

“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” – James 2:19

Believing Only Is Not Enough.
Believing Only Is Not Enough

Hi, everyone! I hope that you are well. Thanks so much to all who continue to show me support by reading my blog! I appreciate you!

If all we do is believe in Jesus and nothing else, then we will not be saved. In Why Belief in Jesus Is Not Enough for Salvation (Part 1), we discussed how simply believing in God is not enough; we must repent of our sins, as well (Luke 13:3). The bible makes it clear that God commands us all to repent (Acts 17:30). Along with repentance and belief, each of us must confess that Jesus is Lord if we want to be saved.

Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” It’s clear. If we don’t confess Christ, we won’t make it to the Father in heaven because we will be denied.

A person cannot be saved without confessing Christ. Notice Romans 10:9: “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” This verse says that if you confess and believe you’ll be saved. So does that mean we throw out the verses about repentance? Is it no longer required for us to repent? The answer to both questions is a hard “No.”

We cannot discard any of God’s word. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:2, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” So we must put together all the verses that talk about salvation and do all those things, not just one of them.

Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God? If so, that is wonderful. But if that’s all, then it’s not enough. You must also repent of your sins. And you must confess that Jesus is Lord.

Have you repented of your sins and confessed Christ? If not, do it today! Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

If you still think belief is enough, will you share with me in the comments why you hold to that?
