Comparison Kills

“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. ” – 2 Corinthians 10:12

Hey, friends! Thank you so much for being in my corner showing your support. I appreciate you continuing to show me love in reading. And I appreciate you!

Have you ever looked through your news feed on social media and thought that somebody else’s life looked more interesting than yours? Maybe she travelled to some place you haven’t been, cooked a pretty plate of food, listed her children’s accomplishments, or just took a nice (and probably enhanced) photo.

It’s easy to look at someone else on social media and think that she has it all together. People display the parts they want you to see. It can be hard not to compare your life to another person’s given the glam she puts on display. But the apostle Paul warns against it.

He admonished that those who compare themselves among themselves and measure themselves by themselves are not wise (2 Corinthians 10:12). Sometimes what’s on display on social media is not what is the case in real life. People can show you the story that they want to tell, even if it’s not true.

People can be all happy on their feed but miserable in real life. It’s not wise to compare yourself to other people. everybody has something they are struggling with about themselves, and comparing can break one’s spirits. As Jonathan McReynolds sang it, comparison kills.

Instead of comparing ourselves to each other, we need to let the measuring line be Christ Jesus. Let’s strive to be more like Christ and compare our lives to His life so that we can be more like Him.
