Have You Looked in the Mirror Today?

mirror of the Word, the Bible

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” -James 1:23-24mirror of the Word, the Bible

Hey friends! Thank you for reading and following my blog! I appreciate the love and support you keep showing me. You’re pretty special, and I appreciate you!!

Have you ever woken up in the morning, thrown on some clothes and just headed for the door, without ever stopping to look in the mirror?

Chances are, you probably say, “no.” Many of us wouldn’t think twice about not looking in the mirror. We have to fix our hair, pop pimples, get the gunk out of our eyes, clean our faces, and do a lot of other stuff to make ourselves look presentable. We need our mirrors to show us the things we need to make right.

But what about our souls? The Bible says that the Word of God is like a mirror. “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was” (James 1:23-24).

A person who looks into the Word of God and does not do it is like a man who looks in the mirror and goes away forgetting what he saw. He makes no changes to his soul – to the character of his being.

Some of us check ourselves in the mirror several times a day. We won’t leave the house without looking in two or three mirrors. Yet, how many of us leave the house without ever looking into the Word of God and reading what He has for our lives? Do we read and study His Word to see what needs to be changed in our hearts?

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12

The Word of God convicts, it reproves, it corrects, and it gives instruction for righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

The Bible transforms us to be more like Christ the more we read and study it. Have you checked the mirror of God’s Word for any spots and blemishes on your soul lately?

All of our souls have been stained with sin, and the Bible shows us the way to get them cleaned. We must believe that Jesus is Lord (John 8:24). We must repent of our sins (Luke 13:3). We must confess that Jesus is Lord (Matthew 10:32-33). And we must be baptized (Mark 16:16).

Let’s be diligent to look in the mirror of God’s Word to see what needs to be fixed in our lives. Have you looked in the mirror today?
