Do You Want to Be Happy?
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.” -Prov. 3:13
Hey good people! I hope that you know how much grateful I am for you reading along with me. Thank you for your show of support! I appreciate you!!
I’m reading through Proverbs, and, as you know, the book has a lot to say about wisdom. Do you want to be happy? Then find wisdom.
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding” (Prov. 3:13).
This reminds me of Psalm 1:1-2: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the paths of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” The man is happy who delights and meditates in the law of God, and the man is happy who finds wisdom.
Well, how do we find wisdom, and what is it? Wisdom is being able to use judgment and discernment to figure out how things will turn out. We all could use a bit of that. Wouldn’t it be nice to have wisdom before making that decision to pour all of your money into that venture that ends up flopping? Or to have wisdom in knowing whether to date or marry that guy who turns out to be bad news? Sure enough, it would.
So how do we get wisdom? It’s not that hard. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Prov. 2:6). James tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).
All we have to do is ask the Lord for wisdom. Wisdom will add years to your life (Prov. 9:11). The Bible says, “wisdom is the principle thing; therefore, get wisdom” (Prov. 4:7). It’s something to be desired. It’s more profitable than silver, and it’s revenue is better than gold (Prov. 3:14).
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prov. 9:10). If you fear the Lord, then you’re on the right track to gaining wisdom for living.
If you don’t have that reverence and awe of the Lord, you can have it. You can believe that Jesus is Lord. You can repent of your sins. You can confess that sweet name of Jesus. And you can be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. Then the Lord will add you to His fold. If you want wisdom, it starts with the fear of the Lord. You can’t have the wisdom that comes from God without it.
I want us to be happy; God does, too. Let’s seek wisdom and hold on to it tightly.
